How would “workers” go about choosing an election?

Employee Free Choice Act proponents continue repeating that “workers” would be able to choose whether to hold an election or seek card-check certification.

From the AFL-CIO blog:

What it does, is enable workers to choose whether they want to vote on union representation through the government-supervised ballot process or indicate their support for a union by signing cards, the majority verification process.

From Political Affairs magazine:

The law would give workers the choice, hence the name of the bill, as to how they want to certify their union. They can choose to do so through card check or through secret ballot.

As we’ve noted before , it seems that only the union would have such a choice. Perhaps someday soon an EFCA proponent will explain exactly how “workers” would go about exercising that choice. In the meantime, we again point to yesterday’s Orange County Register, which quotes two Kaiser Permanente "workers" who report having no choice at all in a recent card-check recognition:

Nancy Gomez: "I am a Certified Nurse Midwife employed by Kaiser and was railroaded into the union in this last vote. ... Most of the Orange County midwives never even got a vote card or were notified that the vote was taking place.

Cheryl Pearce: "Many of us were not even aware the vote was actually taking place."
